Description

I was at this park of sorts a few days prior to the day I took this, watching the multitude of ducks they have there (it's a popular destination for the locals). Most of the water is open, but there is this small secluded creek that is in sections almost completely shaded by gigantic magnolia trees. It just so happens that one of the mother ducks uses this area as a nursery for her four ducklings. I wanted to get some shots of them, but even though the sun was strong and bright that day the stream was so shaded I wasn't able to get anything without a flash, which didn't have the desired effect. I returned two days later, armed with a loaf of bread and my tripod. I didn't have very much luck shooting the babies because they move so damn fast and were blurred with the longer exposure time, but was absolutely thrilled to get this shot of the mother, standing silent watch in the still water over her young brood.

Comments/suggestions/etc. welcome. :)

Nice shot, very nice colours :) I love the reflection. Some parts are overexposed....

Very nice capture. As far as the overall composition, I'd prefer if you had cropped a bit tighter to the duck and in a fashion that would have placed her slightly off center. 7/9.

hmmmmmm..... I like it a lot.

And (as usual!) I've got some challenges with it. Something about the cropping bugs me (bugs / cropping - a theme with me today!)

But I love the mood, the colours and the ducky!

This is the crop that allows me to print at 8X10 without losing much quality :) If I could find odd-shaped frames or make them without spending a fortune, I'd be much more eager to try different crops. Thank you all for your input....it's how I improve. (thumbup)
